The National Museum is adjacent to Tiananmen Square. This is a suit made of jade pieces sewn together with gold thread. Emperors were buried in such suits, because it was believed (a) that the afterlife only lasted as long as the physical body was preserved and (b) that burial in jade and gold would preserve the physical body.
