This the edge of the central plaza in Guanajuato. At the top of the hill you can see a large statue of El Pipila. This statue commemorates Juan Jose Martinez, a miner who set fire to the front door of the granary where Spanish Royalists took refuge in 1810 during an attack on the city by Mexican revolutionaries.
