I was hoping to get a fresh-from-the-griddle stroopwafel here, but only olieballen and apelflappen were for sale. These are Dutch doughnuts and apple fritters, traditionally eaten on New Year's Eve and ONLY on New Year's eve, but I guess they had to finish off the supply. The next day I took my flight home. At the airport the bank clerk where I changed money mistakenly thought I lived in Holland and tried hard to sell me travel insurance for my vacation in the States. I was so pleased that my Dutch was good enough that he could make this mistake! |
