The conference sponsored an excursion to Hijemi Castle. This six-story castle was completed in 1608. In former years, several hundred noble families had fiefdoms in Japan and they engaged in warfare for a couple of hundred years until "one of them won" in the seventeenth century. After these battles, the defeated army would often be absorbed into the winning army, making it easier to win the next war, so gradually the winners increased their power.
