That same day I had to catch a train to Bonn. It didn't come: you can see it was supposed to leave at 14:05 and here I am still waiting at almost 14:30. The reason turned out to be that someone had committed suicide by throwing themselves in front of a train, thus fouling up the train schedule for the whole country. There is a train to Germany and points beyond every two hours--the previous one was canceled entirely, so all those people were packed onto our train. Their reservations were now worthless--but mine was still good, so I sat, and they stood. There was standing room only in first class!
